About Us

The Gurkhas was founded by Nepal-born Shrabaneswor Rai, who is also Director and Co-Founder ofHot Stone Steak and Sushi Bar in Islington. Shrabaneswor has long dreamed of bringing Nepalese cuisine to London with a nod to his Gurkha family connections.

Himself and Head Chef Joe Allen – whose wife is Nepalese, and father-in-law a Gurkha – promise a culinary adventure across Nepal, using modern interpretations on recipes, inspired by the heritage of the Himalayas.

Named after Nepal soldiers who have fought for Britain since 1815, the restaurant serves fresh vibrant plates that blend authentic flavours and spices with impeccably sourced British produce. Expect an elevated and unique approach to traditional Nepalese cuisine, rarely seen in the capital.
